Because Cuba was mentioned in our Reading Zone this week, and we discovered not many boys knew much about the country, we did a mini lesson on Cuba today. Look at all of the old cars!

Write 8 facts (they must be true!) about the county you picked in school for homework into your SESE hardback. You could include facts about the county colours, a nickname of the county, its name in Irish, rivers/mountains, biggest town, tourist attractions, a song about the county, what counties it borders, sporting achievements ..... and any other interesting fact you come across!
Welcome back!I hope you all had a lovely summer. Here are some reminders for the beginning of the school year: Homework should take 50- 60 minutes per night. It usually takes the same format each week. Learning homework is as important as written homework and it is important that time is spent on learning tables (http://www.theschoolhub.ie/sample.php), spellings (writing them out is a useful way) and Irish spellings (again, writing them out does work). A page from their Léigh sa Bhaile will also be set each night. The boys are encouraged to read this aloud to develop confidence & fluency ag labhairt Gaeilge. As well as this, there will usually be one piece of written English, and some Maths sums. Reading for pleasure (at least 15 minutes per night) is also encouraged. Please remember to check & sign homework journal daily. Confirmation date Thursday April 27th @ 3pm, Star of the Sea Church Dental forms will be sent home on Monday Sept 5th. Please fill these out & return to me by the end of the week. Finally, I have compiled some useful websites in the 'website' section for various topics. Looking forward to working with you all again!
